We drove the HOT ROD to school today! Saul really enjoys the Corvair, mostly because he sits next to me? no, because it is loud, obnoxious and silly.

Yesterday on my way home, people kept honking at me. I figured, "Hey, I'm a good lookin guy!" Well, I should have thought "my rear lights are not functioning"

stopped at Mel's for some corvair consultation. He suggested the rear bulbs might be out. We put a electric meter on, and yep! they were. HOWEVER, the previous owner converted the bulbs to LEDs, by cutting out the socked, putting the new bulbs in with epoxy, and soldering wires to them.

I stopped for parts on the way home. Pulled the lenses, pulled the aluminium dish that holds the sockets, cleaned my workbench, cut all the glue off, pulled the LED bulbs out, mounted NEW sockets for standard bulbs, polished the aluminium so it would reflect brighter, and reinstalled the whole shabang. Works like a CHAMP.

Apparently, those clothes are not hers. There's definitely a joke in here about the emperor.

It's interesting how she's transformed form a "Maverick" into a "Rogue"

and, previous video was sent in from my mom, is NOT my mom... :)

Chandrayaan-1 Launched Oct 22.

The Indian Space Research Organization successfully launched their first unmanned spacecraft, scheduled to orbit the moon.

This is another step on their path to landing humans on the moon.

Listen to me. India WILL be on the moon before America gets back there. We are too busy showing reporters the tools we built, instead of launching rockets.

Pay attention! They are spending money on science, math and education for research and advancement.

Notice this was not widely in the news on US TV? Why? Europe heard about it. Really.

What are we spending money on?
machines that detect explosives in shoes to go in airports in middle America.
BEWARE the TERRORIST THREAT. $7BILLION per year for the TSA to feel up my mother-in-law if she looks suspicious.

Bin Laden won. We have lost our way. We forgot science, education, technology and advancement is the only focus that will get us ahead.

Congratulations to all my friends in India, this was a momentous occasion, and I share in your celebration of science and advancement.

I took the KTM 300 (2 smoke) out to Hollister this morning. None of the pals arrived, so I rode solo. Meaning a little more cautious, and sticking to the big wide trails, just in case.

they opened a new section, the "Rentz Property" which is nice trails, looks a lot like riding on old country roads. but a couple of really sharp 90 turns, some over a rise, blind to old men, etc.

I was riding great, feeling good, and forgot its been 24 years since I was 20. Hammering up a quick hill, saw the drop left hander, fixated on the fence instead of the trail, and had the left right left right wheel skip that ended in a lowside (yes, better than high side) slid down the trail a little, with the left bar poking me on the outside of the thigh, pulled the left thumb at an odd angle, filled my helmet and gloves with dirt, but otherwise okay. The Thor Impact Rig SE that I was wearing? Totally worth the money.

laughed a little, stood up, cleaned off, got bike back up, took off and rode another hour, just to prove to myself that I was not done.

got home, cleaned up everything, sewed up jersey and pants, etc. realigned front end, bike is otherwise fine

8 hours later? Sore, feeling a little silly, a lot old, and somewhat fat.

high part of the day? passing 3 young punk kids on the MX track. Yes, it looks really cool when you jump so high up there. It does not look so cool that a balding fat old man rolled the jump, kept on the power, and beat you to the next turn. Age and Treachery once again trumps youth and talent.

higher part of the day? got home, 2 yr old Tarzan came out and said "Hi Daddy, can I help wash the bike?"

woo hooo.

We then went to dinner with the Rabasa family. Saul was infatuated with their daughter Savannah. And older woman, you know. It was great to see them, and a stunning reminder that we need to get out more often. Hooray!

tomorrow will be limping around at work, feeling like a dumbass. Still will have had a better weekend than the guys who go to the gym, pay to walk on a treadmill and watch sports on tee vee.

and? big birthday shout out to Joe in Austin. WOO HOO. another year!

Chris was Friday. so many birthdays...

why do I have to take my shoes off at the airport, again?

Brilliant article in the Atlantic.

Cindy at Scribbles got some photos to me on USB key, of Saul at work over the past few months.

prepare for cuteness overload.

I did not buy a 1959 Matchless G-80.

Once again, the difference between the PHOTO on Craigslist, and the actual bike.....

well, it just pisses me off. If you are trying to sell something, you know, at some point in time, the buyer will actually SEE what you have. So don't doll it all up with parts that you are not selling, take a brilliant photo, and use comments like "running" when its a tatty dirtbag that has not run since Nixon was still in office. Hell, maybe Kennedy.

Anyhow, I did not buy a 1959 Matchless G-80

cause it did not look close to either of these photos

when ya go to the mall, sometimes the photo machines are good, sometimes they are okay

here are some from saturday

Saturday, October 11, 2008

okay, this is just hilarious. Someone has made a "literal version" of a 1980's video from the band A-Ha. Which used to be one of my favorites, mostly because of the animated motorcycle racing

it reminds me so well of the guy Buffalax, who re-translated a bunch of Hindi Pop videos, links below

Yom Kippur, we broke fast at Mike & Evies. Saul ate Challah and some yogurt and applesauce. He was especially cute, for no apparent reason.

Grandma sent Superman pajamas. He will pose to please.

Crashed out in daddy's "Big Bed"

it RAINED in San Jose yesterday. No, really, RAIN. And he played in it.

diagramming Sarah Palin

Thursday, October 02, 2008

Got a call from my dad, Cheyenne passed this morning. She was a good dog.

Wednesday, October 01, 2008

As the BRILLIANT Gilda Radner said, playing Rosanne Roseannadanna said "it just goes to show you, it's always something! If it's not one thing, it's another"

We believe Saul has Roseola, as he has small red acne-like dots all over his chest and back. He does not have a fever, and is not in any pain, but seems to have the rash part. We will wait till tomorrow morning and see if it clears up.

Sara is staying home from work, so he does not go to daycare. I will call Scribbles and make inquiry.

but he is in a very good mood, and went happily to bed

Hooray for the Mullet! Yay Sean & Louise for bringing the noise! :D

SO! in the same whiskey tango thread...

what would YOUR name be if Sarah Palin was your mom?

well, assuming you believe Land of the Lost! Sarah Palin Style!

rs notes

it is not that she makes bad decisions, and is not the best possible VP candidate, No, really, I am not a hater. It's that McCain CHOSE her. This is someone who COULD be the president. Believes Dinosaurs and Man existed at the same time? Named her kid Trigger? Has foreign policy experience because she can See Russia from her house? HELLO? OH NO

this makes me happier
