Aunties Beth and Ln sent these boots. We were worried when they still had sensor tag on them. Either Clerk forgot to take it off? Or Beth & Ln have turned to a life of crime?

okay, too long without a good update.

So Saul ate some rice cereal this weekend. YAY. Tarzan says rice cereal is yummy.

Today we had a meeting at the Stanford, Lucille Packard Children's Hospital for Occupational Therapy with an eating specialist.

This is just so difficult to explain.

Just before we went in for our appointment we met a lady whose name I missed, but her son Arul is 2. They were finishing their appointment. She has somewhat the same issue, but for different reason, Arul was preemie. And won't eat.

We chatted for a bit, and she told us "it is so difficult to explain to anyone who has not had this problem. All my family and friends try to give advice, but really, no one understands this"

And she is right. Our son will eat, only not enough. How can you explain "baby won't eat?" it is not about love or mothering or fathering, or what food it is. He won't eat.

She worked and is working very hard to keep her son off the G-tube. This is our goal also.

Then we got in to our appointment, and Ms. Thorn, our therapist, was wonderful, She listened to some of his history, and had this calm smile.

Just like my pal Joe, who can listen to a toyota motor for 3 minutes and tell you what all is wrong and why, she too, had heard and seen it, and knew the issues. Not through brilliance, through experience.

WE ARE NOT ALONE! Just knowing that is amazing.

We discussed how he eats, and why he may not, what factors could contribute, and how we may be able to get him to eat more.

She has a recommendation for another pediatric GI specialist, and will try to get us in to see her quickly.

THEN, she held up a pinwheel Simple, a Pinwheel. Sparkly.

Tarzan locked onto it, and started sucking from the bottle. No, he did not finish all 90ml, but he did drink more, .... after we thought he was done.

the distraction helped.

I read about a word to describe someone who is excited by, and craves new things. Unfortunately, I cannot find the reference. But there is this need for new. Not new toys, but NEW. the excitement of starting a new freindship. The thrill of finding a new place to eat.... etc..

but the problem is, eventually, the new wears off, and the pinwheel is no longer new.

So we still must find a long term solution, and will be working on that.

If nothing else, it was wonderful to hear that we are not alone. Cause it is impossible to explain to people "my baby won't eat"

well, that's what happened for us today.

I hope no one declares me an enemy combattant.

getting out?

Habeas Corpus Dead! (From Wikipedia)

Top legal experts and scholars are nearly unanimous that the Military Commissions Act does affect American citizens.

Yale Law Professor Bruce Ackerman states in the L.A. Times , "The compromise legislation....authorizes the president to seize American citizens as enemy combatants, even if they have never left the United States. And once thrown into military prison, they cannot expect a trial by their peers or any other of the normal protections of the Bill of Rights."

Similarly, law Professor Marty Lederman explains : "this [subsection (ii) of the definition of 'unlawful enemy combatant'] means that if the Pentagon says you're an unlawful enemy combatant -- using whatever criteria they wish -- then as far as Congress, and U.S. law, is concerned, you are one, whether or not you have had any connection to 'hostilities' at all."

apparently whenever Mike & evie come over, Saul eats solids

Mike & Evie came over this afternoon, and helped Sara & Saul.

with?

Rice Cereal! He had his first solid experience

(he is sitting in his swing, but we got the high chair set up tonight, and will use that tomorrow)

I was out on the Royal enfield, delivering sidecar parts to Don up in the hills, trying to get the sidecar closer to reality.

Then we went for dinner with Dale & Joan.

Saul was grumpy most of the evening, then? as a special gift after our midnight feeding? he barfed on my face.

an operational skycar?

The prototype is up on eBay to generate capital for more development.

No one else will have one of these in their garage for a while. Truly be the first kid on the block to own it....

There is even a hot wings version of this.

own a one of a kind car that has toy versions? How cool is that?

The ONLY way this would be better? is if it came with a jet pack rocket belt!

well, as if we are not having enough fun?

Diaper Rash!!!

I knew it was only a matter of time. So we are working on damage control. The Dr. Sears page recommends a Zinc Oxide paste, A&D paste, and Aquafour.

We are using a rotation of them.

Sara has also been laying in bed, on a pee sheet, with him bare butt on her, to give him "air time"

Last night Julia stayed over. Wow, I cannot go into enough detail and praise of how much she is helping us out. She had to bathe him TWICE! He was a poopy, fussy baby.

But she broke out the infant tub, the infant tub sling, etc. and got him clean and happy.

I cannot go on enough about how lucky we are to have her in our lives.

uhh, i am done.

A few days ago Sara & I decided to continue in our exploration of ANY POSSIBLE THING to get our kid to eat.

Someone anonomously posted that they did not like Gentian Violet. Well, that may be, but we have a 2.5 month old child who will not eat, and has to be fed through a tube every three hours. We are fighting to keep him from having a "G-Tube" put directly in his stomach. So we try anything. The yeast MAY have gone away on your child, but ours is showing no sign, and it obviously affects his eating. So we try almost anything.

We shifted him to a formula of Goats milk with molasses and some "live and thrive" tincture. Do you know where you buy goats milk? Assuming you are not a shephard? Whole foods.

he is taking 90 to 95ml every 3 hours. And appears happier, and sometimes takes 40+ from a bottle, not just direct tube.

Sara says it is hard to be optimistic, and we do not want to jinx ourselves. But we are trying.

I tried to embed 2 movies from YoutUbe here I took these this morning

Saul chats with Sara every morning

And he is starting to smile more

So late at night, it is difficult to hold the feeding tube up for 15+ minutes. The correct answer? Build a tool! It works, it helps, it is not pretty, but it works.

Notice his lips are, well, purple? No, he is not turning Violet a-k-a Violet Beauregaurd , no, we are trying another thrush remedy

http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com/thrush.html

Gentian Violet:

Because traditional medications to treat thrush/yeast, such as Nystatin, often do not work, Gentian Violet is regaining popularity again among practitioners. It has been around for many years and is known to be an extremely effective yeast fighter. It can be purchased at the local pharmacy but calling ahead is advised as some pharmacies do not carry it. Gentian Violet can be used on the nipple area by painting the nipples and areolae once a day at night. As with the Nystatin care should be taken not to dip the same cotton swab back in the bottle after painting the nipple area. A clean swab should be used each time or a few drops poured out of the bottle into a cup and any leftovers discarded after that application. Very little is needed as it spreads quickly.

Gentian Violet may also be used to paint the baby's mouth. The entire mouth - inside of lips, roof of mouth, sides of cheeks, tongue, etc. - should be painted with a clean swab once a day. The baby should then be turned over onto his stomach to lessen the amount that is swallowed.

Some mothers have been told that Gentian Violet is dangerous due to its alcohol content and should not be used by nursing mothers. Please understand that the amount of alcohol in the Gentian Violet is insignificant and thus the amount the baby ingests will also be insignificant. The contents of the bottle may be diluted with 50% water if there is still concern.

Gentian Violet should be used for 4 days. If symptoms have improved but not completely, application can continue for another 3 days. It should not be used longer than one week. If there is a need to continue with it after one week of treatment, a break of a few days should be taken before resuming its use. If symptoms are no better or in fact worse after 4 days of treatment with Gentian Violet follow-up should be made with a lactation consultant.

Old clothing should be worn when treating with Gentian Violet as it temporarily stains everything it comes in contact with purple. Many mothers need to be prepared for the site of the baby's mouth. It will be bright purple. It helps to know that this does fade and rather quickly. For tips on preventing or lessening and cleaning Gentian Violet stains see our information page http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com/gvstains.html.

Removing Gentian Violet stains:

# Gentian Violet will rub off counters and skin with rubbing alcohol, if used immediately.

# Spray stained fabric with aerosol hair spray; then wash normally.

# One mom reported having good luck with ZOUT stain remover, even after the stains were dry. Another used Didi 7 with similar results. Any item that can be safely bleached with chlorine bleach should come clean.

# A cotton swab/ball with vodka can get stains off baby's face. Rinse vodka off immediately after cleaning stain. Rubbing alcohol will work on baby's face. too. One mom reported that baby wipes worked pretty well, too (she used Huggies Supreme Natural Care Unscented wipes).

It's official. San Jose has the worst roads!

Yep, bad maintenance.

maybe we buy a few less BRAND NEW VEHICLES for every possible official, and use the money to fix the roads.

I know, a silly thought, cause really, the secretary to the clerk to the guy that checks tax stamps? Also needs a new official San Jose car too. last years is, well, old already.

Fix Roads NOW!
